Lt. Thomas B. Weir has become an important part of the LBH. Acting without orders, he advanced to investigate the whereabouts of Custer. He may have saw more than he later said once he reached Weir Point. After his return to Reno Hill, there is very little said about him.
After the battle he was assigned to New York where he became mentally unstable, drank, and eventually died, from either pneumonia, melancholia, or congestion of the brain.
He wrote Libbie Custer and told her he had much to say about what happened at the LBH . . . but died within six months of the battle, taking whatever "secrets" with him.
Does anyone have any info on his conduct on Reno Hill and what others thought of him?
What do you think he really saw from Weir Point?

I don't think too Weir could have saw something from Weir Point. Weir said to Libbie also that he could tell her something that "could made her proud, for a while". I think he was referring to himself. He was in fact one of the first officiers or the most resolute to go toward "the sound of fire" to rescue Custer. And while Reno denied the permission, he started yet with Edgerly.
