Just finished reading, CUSTER'S SOUTHERN OFFICER, Captain George Wallace by John Mackintosh. John is a frequent visitor to this website and has written numerous articles for the LBHA & CBHMA publications, and now has written the definitive work on Wallace. Unlike other members of the seventh, the reader will not find much scandal here. No court martials, no drunken brawls, no AWOLs, Wallace for the most part, was a model soldier. An officer and a gentleman. But his testimonies at the Reno Court of Inquiry are questioned by a number of historians. Did Wallace hear the 'real' version of Custer's orders to Reno? Some say they were quite different from the 'I will support you' version given by Reno at the hearings. Did Reno reward Wallace later for his testimony? This is an interesting book which raises a number of questions about what Wallace really knew regarding the battle of the Little Big Horn and what he may have revealed at one point. A well researched and written book on Wallace's life and tragic death at Wounded Knee. Highly Recommended.
