Latest news: the DVD is already available to pre-order from the BBC Shop. Release date 26th March. The bad news for those in the US is that it's in Region 2 format. So unless you've got a multi-region player, you'll have to exert patience until they have the sense to bring out a Region 1 edition ... Details here: tinyurl.com/2xlqcj

I have been told that region 2 format DVD's will likely play on computers, which don't recognize the coding.

Hi Elisabeth
Thanks for posting this - do you know when it will be transmitted in the UK?
Regards

Not at all sure. It's not in next week's Radio Times, even as a Coming Attraction; but I think a preview of goodies-to-come back in the pre-Christmas period said something about February. I found a Toby Stephens fan website that said it would be February 10th. However, as they seem to be planning to start with Billy the Kid, my guess would be that that's the date for the series opener, and that the Custer episode will go out the following week.
The BBC website is distressingly close-mouthed about transmission dates. But it must be soon, at all events -- they'd never release the DVD until after the programme had aired, I think.

You can see the BBC show "Custer's Plan" in its entirety on youtube in all 9 parts by simply doing a search under "Custer". Its about 50 minutes all told. Very well done, from a reenactors point of view. This is the 1st time we have ever gotten to see the White Horse Troop (E Company) on screen....even with their historically accurate white hats! Kudo's must go out to Jim Hatzell, the Cav Reenactor Coordinator on this film, for being so attentive to historical detail. Aside from some minor miscues on Custer's attire, the uniforms and equipment were spot on target. And not a suspender to be seen on a single trooper! And the terrain was a near perfect match for LBH. Congratulations on a job well done!

Jim-
I caught the Custer episodes on youtube, and have to say, overall, very nice production and the south dakota locations looked fantastic. They mirrored LBH better than any other production I've seen. it was nice to see such attention to detail in uniforms, tack & etc. Too bad we'll never see the rest of the footage they shot. Would have been fun to have been on the set for that one!
Take care -JP
