I hear most reenactors really have a good time when they do this kind of thing. I always wondered what was the funniest event or saying etc. that happened to you, or someone else? Come on don't hold back, tell us, I would love to hear it, and i'm sure everyone else would too.

Ummm.... well hoop skirts are romantic, and I suppose they are charming and attractive all gussied up. I can only imagine trying to sit down in one of those things. I assume of course it must take a gentleman to hold the chair for them.

Have Corky Reed or someone who saw the incident tell you about his experience with a porta-potty a few years ago.

Have Corky Reed or someone who saw the incident tell you about his experience with a porta-potty a few years ago. I got him to tell me--but I couldn't possibly do justice to the tale! ;D

I hung out with the Florida cavalry in my photo'ing of reenacments daze back in mid 90's.
Some funny things, which I took shots of, were seeing lines of Feds and Rebs lined up at the porta potties.
One Reb officer made himself up a fantastic tent that managed to cover and hie his small van. He hung a sign on it, "Officers Showers" He slept warm and cozy in winter (most of FL events are in winter or else we'd lose entire armies to heat prostration)
The FL Cavalry had CSA and Fed uniforms and equipment so they could do both sides as needed. Somtimes they changed sides in the middle of a battle if there were some woods nearby!
bill and I were their unoffcial photogs. Did about 5-6 weekends a year then. But the return eventually fell behind the invenstment, not to mention having to take days off from work, or leave work in the morning and go strraight to an event.
I imagine today, there are dozens of digital photogs working out of tents which have printers hidden in the back. Can't compete.

I went to a reenactment on Sunday, and in a fit of insanity, joined the Confederate artillery. A friend of a friend owns a couple of guns, and is always recruiting. My friend mischieviously introduced me to her, knowing what would happen. I ran straight to the sutler's tent and acquired a gray vest and red kepi, and will make my debut as an artilleryman the third weekend in August. My new commanding officer said she would train me, which is really necessary--I don't even know what kind of guns they are, but I'm sure I'll find out.
I was interested to see a much larger percentage of women in uniform at this event than I had previously, but, hey, it's California, after all. Since there were no actual battles here, they just sort of do generic ones, two per day, and each side wins one. This gives it more of the air of a football game than I would prefer, but a good time is had by all, which beats the original Civil War by a long shot.
My favorite moment happened after it was over. A guy in shorts and tee shirt was examining an artillery caisson. He said, "What goes in here, honey?" His wife, in uniform, replied, "That's where we keep the ammunition."
I am now up to seven time periods. Pray for me.

I just had a look at the Custer Clan website--the pop-up ad at the top was "Tips for Fixing Hair Loss!" ;D
