Katz' "Custer in Photographs" reproduced 3 well-known photographs of General Custer on a buffalo hunt in September, 1869, near Ft. Hays, Kansas. The many individuals in the photographs were partially identified. Has anyone ever attempted a complete identification of those individuals?? The West Point museum, which has the best copies of the original photographs, has said they know of no complete i.d.s. Please help, Reggie Van Driest

You mean you actually got the West Point museum to respond to a request? You succeeded where I have not and I am retired military. Where can I see this photo?

Dear Walt:
Thank you for your query. I have glossy copies of the 2 close-up images that I will be happy to postal mail to you. Just send me your postal address off list. Now, do you have any information on the photograph i.d.s??
