In the LBHA Newsletter from May 2003 (thanks for that, Diane!) there's a tantalising piece of information: a letter from Charles F. Bobo, son of Sgt. Edwin Bobo, to the Editor of Winners of the West -- Vol. 13, No. 8, dated July 1936.
Bobo Jr. says: "Comrade Hendricks inquired in a recent issue ... about a song written by Gustave Korn in memory of Commanche [sic] and expressed a desire to obtain a copy through your press. I am enclosing the song so you may comply with his request."
So the song must have existed! (Though it can't have been "in memory of", strictly speaking, as Korn died before Comanche.)
Anyone know anything about this? It's especially intriguing in the light of Korn's apparently perpetual silence on all other matters, such as the battle. Might there be clues in the lyrics, one wonders ...?

I'm wondering if he's somehow related to the rock band Korn.
Sorry, I couldn't resist that.

Maybe if you play it backwards . . "I buried Paul . . ."

I will take you seriously, Elisabeth!
I don't know a thing about the song, and I'm sure you've tried the most likely places. I will try to pose your question (space permitting) in the next LBHA Newsletter (March) if you like. I can't think of anyone who specializes in Korn, but there are several women (not online) who love Comanche. Perhaps they know something about it.

Thank you, Diane!!!
I've put a few feelers out elsewhere, so an answer may come up -- but if none does, I'd be very grateful for that. Korn had a lot he could have told us, I think, and he just might have let some of it slip out in this song ...

Yeah, he probably wrote it while he was stampeding through the village.
Best wishes, George M. Cohan
