Fellow Students of the LBH:
I am trying to track down the whereabouts of Lt. McIntosh's wedding ring that was discovered a few years back by Jason Pitsch on his property. My findings thus far have led me to believe that the ring is in possession of a man named Glen Swanson, of whom I have heard about before but never have had the opportunity to meet.
My question is whether anyone has any contact information for this individual so that I might get in touch with him about viewing the good Lt's artifact.
As to my background, I am a living historian / re-enactor and a member of various national LBH / Custer study groups. This year I will be acting as Regimental Adjutant at the Real Bird Re-enactment, which was bestowed upon me by my good friend Steve Alexander (whom is known as the 'foremost Custer living historian). Another close friend of mine is one of the 5 board members for the CBHMA as well.
I mention these credentials so that it might be apparant that I am not merely some crazy person off of the street, looking to perhaps steal the ring, but an honest student of the time period. Annually I come out to the LBH to portray 1st Lt. Donald McIntosh, who as you know died during Reno's valley fight. Because of this, seeing the ring in person would be of great interest to me.
As I have been studying the battle and especially the role that Lt. McIntosh took in it, I am very interested in any new knowledge I can find concerning the man. It is my understanding that Glen Swanson is in possession of Lt. McIntosh's wedding ring and gutta percha sleeve button (and perhaps more) that were found on the battlefield, not all that many years ago. If this is true, I was wondering if there would any way to arrange a "private" viewing, or the opportunity to actually hold these items in my hand for the purposes of photographs, nostalgia, etc.?
Any help in locating these items or, if he indeed has them, putting me in contact with Glen Swanson would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
