Hello.
A couple of at least the officers at LBH would never have been deemed fit to serve in today's armies, at least not the mighty Norwegian armed forces. ...
So I was thinking about how many had what we today would call disabilities. Here I mean physical ones, mental problems and/or alcoholism does not count From the top of my head, these guys had some "issues":
Crittenden: One eye, lost the other one in a hunting accident. (Algernon) Smith: Only partial use of one arm, after being wounded in the ACW. Godfrey: Deaf (partially?) on on ear.
(Maybe DeWolf: Not sure here, but was severely injured during the ACW ad was discharged, only to re-enlist. Not sure if this injury hampered him later on, after all he did serve as a surgeon)
Have I forgotten anyone?
All the best, Noggy

There are several who, before LBH, were returned to their respective forts, listed as "unable to endure the hardships of cavalry duty" or some such. Off-hand Armantheus Cather (F) was one. He later was put on hospital duty (perhaps because he was unable to do anything else useful) and may have been helping Dr. Lord on the day of the LBH battle.
