I was not going to point this out because he doesn't want any thanks or glory, but the "very good book well done" would not have been published if it weren't for "hunkpatila." He pulled together disjointed essays by Gordon Harper to make the book flow and oversaw mapmaking and all the other things that go into such a book. He didn't receive a penny or any thanks from Harper's family for that matter.
herosrest, I think you are the one who owes the apology.
Diane
Many thanks for the moral support, much appreciated. What I took exception to was this comment by Herosrest, "The books are excellent although not what Harper would have produced but rather a synthesis of what he left behind with the closing chapter questionable as 'his' conclusion."
Given that Harper was uncertain about producing a book at all, as evidenced by the extract from one of his posts I cited, 'not what Harper would have produced' is a slight on the person (myself) who did produce it, as it implies that somehow his ideas for a finished book were disrespected, as nothing could be further from the truth. Even what had to be added, apart from my own chapter, was carefully worded to reflect Gordie's style. It is axiomatic that once a person is dead what he or she might have done with an unfinished work is moot. However, 'Fights' consists of all the finished work that Gordie left behind plus what little was needed to be added. I have no idea what 'closing chapter' herosrest is talking about. Mine or that attributed to Harper, as if the first, then clearly it is not 'his' conclusion and states so at the start. If the reference is to the preceding chapter put together from his various posts plus e-mails he sent to friends, then it does truly portray his conclusion given that he had not recorded his sources in either written or electronic form.
What I object to in the above quoted comment is the kind of half-truths it contains, which proliferate in herorest's voluminous posts and lulls people, especially newcomers, into believing that his posts can be trusted, which in the main, they can't. As to an apology from him, don't hold your breath, he'll play the injured party forever and yon, but he'll wait longer than that for an apology from me as I only wrote my honest opinion.
Can't be bothered to respond to him as that story would run ad nauseum.
Once again my thanks for your input and so glad to see that you are still as feisty as ever!
Your ursine friend,
