Most of us have read the tragic accounts of Gall’s two wives and three children being killed at the outset of the battle. What I have read infers that they were perhaps digging for wild turnips (or something) when killed. My question is, do we know with any degree of certainty who may have killed them? We know Bloody Knife was amongst the scouts and many of us are, of course, aware of the hatred that existed between Bloody Knife and Gall. Therein, lay my questions.
1.) Was Bloody Knife among the Arikara scouts that rode ahead of Reno to steal from the vast pony herd and/or the area where the women were digging turnips?
2.) If so, is there any evidence that Bloody Knife killed Galls family, perhaps seeing them by happenstance and killing them in revenge?
3.) Do we know how Galls family died, that is, which group (Arikara scouts, Bloody Knife, Reno’s troops, someone else?) killed them?
I thank you in advance.
