I have for some (considerable) time, been studying and decyhpering Walter S. Campbell's notes from interviews of Yellow Nose in Oklahoma where both resided. I thought that I might share a snippet of the forthcoming work. It's bit rough but the polish still shines through.

Courtesy of OU < linkDigital Collections - Walter S. Campbell (Stanley Vestal) - Index. The collection has been linked to interested boards in the past and is here again. In regards the Yellow Nose notes (40 so pages), as far as I can discern, they have not been studied or referenced previousy. I could easily be wrong but usually am not. This links to a relevant index of the archive, which points to the record in viewable pdf form. Unfortunately, the Yellow Nose notebook was not indexed and therefore, unless you understood the topic when trawling the document for something else, it sits there forever and unknown. Link to Box 112 Folder 1 'cos life's like that! Go Sooners! Anecdote Link

OK, Accumulate to disseminate. Geary, Oklahoma. DATA.... That's Da ta! Let's do Yellow Nose 2018. You know, Ralph Goodman used to sit and listen to YN. Apparently, he strangled Custer during a close quarter encounter. The link is a good (great read). Yellow Nose lived where? On his allotment on the North Canadian River, near the town of Geary, OK. Remarkable art.

There is a river called the Canadian River that runs through the Texas panhandle and into Oklahoma.

Is that the way to Amarillo?

I suppose you could say that. The Canadian river is north of Amarillo, about halfway to Dumas.

The OU file is a part of the Stanley Vestal Collection which is online. Amongst the 96 pages is an unknown interview with Yellow Nose. It is in Campbell/Vestals own hand on notepad sheets. I gathered the the 10 or so relevant pages together into PDF as link. There is something of a problem with his handwriting. I spent quite some time decyphering it and........... failed. A reason for these notes being unknown is that they are not indexed as a topic. I suspect that who ever worked on the file simply was nonplussed and what is it? It just sits there. I am unaware of Vestal or anyone else making use of the information but can imagine why. It's as though he used a spider as a pen.

Yellow Nose files in Vestal's notes at OU, besides various odds and sods which are perfect for those little anecdotes and plethoric parantheses in addenda, where you thumb back and forth in search of MSS.
