I know of Steve Alexander, I had his book, which had a fantastic full-length single colour plate of Custer dressed in his buckskins, hat, pistols and carrying a rifle in camp, the best I've ever seen. However, is Steve the Custer 'officially' or are there others who portray him at reenactments ? If so, it must look very strange seeing several of him together !
There are zero Col Durnford Reenactors, everybody seemingly wanting to be from the 24th because of Isandhlwana and Rorke's Drift, almost totally excluding any other units. A bit boring if I was to be honest about it.
Col Durnford of the Royal Engineers was the senior officer at Isandhlwana, his uniform in my view the most interesting, a definite personality to portray at reenactments, but no.
Lt. Chard of the Royal Engineers was the senior officer at Rorke's Drift, but again, not portrayed at reenactments.
It's the 24th redcoats every time, kinda defeats the fact of how many men of other units were present.

Greetings, logan –
In answer to your question about Steve Alexander, I must first disclose that I consider Steve and his wife very dear friends and I maintain his website, so I am totally biased.
I have seen a couple of other men portray Custer but never at the same time! In my opinion, Steve looks the most like Custer and portrays him the most accurately. The U.S. Congress and several states have acknowledged Steve as the foremost Custer living historian, so he is about as "official" as you can get. You may want to check his website for more information: www.georgecuster.com.
Best wishes, Diane

Diane,
You can help me here. The gentleman who plays Tom at the LBH pinch hit for Steve, 3 or 4 years ago and did an admirable job. He has been back playing Tom since. I do not know his name.
Regards, Tom
