I hope my mood will be better come 10pm this evening, C'Mon England!!!!! Ian Sorry Ian, only just seen your prior post. Yes, I'm as well as a creaking old fart of 86 can be, but still reasonably compos mentis enough to interact with these boards on an ad hoc basis. I hope that you and yours are keeping Covid free and otherwise in good health. Are the Vikings still fighting the good fight?
As to this evening, it all depends on just how adventurous Southgate is prepared to be, as Denmark are playing for Eriksson with all the fire and belief that was generated when he had that dreadful experience in their first match. It will be a fascinating watch.
Be good.

Always a pleasure Gordon, always a pleasure!
Alas the Vikings are out of super league and reside in the championship.
Glad you are through the covid wars and fully jabbed!
Tough game last night, we came from behind to dominate the game.
Enjoy the final! Ian

Trouble is, I till measure all teams against the 1970 Brazilian World Cup winners. That was football, not the mostly boring chess games of today. Italy will be a different proposition. Let's hope the Vikings get their act together soon! "Hunk" Papa

Get rather nervous now Gordon, not long to go to kick off. If we lose I am not buying any Dolmio for the rest of the year!

Below is an excerpt from an article in Cavalier County Extra. The article is poorly presented visually, but it takes a look at an important "somber anniversary."
Robert Utley wrote a book in 1963 called “The Last Days of the Sioux Nation,” describing in detail what led up to the massacre at Wounded Knee. Many of the references in Utley’s book are different than those in the “cookie-cutter” history books.
To summarize, the 7th Cavalry had way more fire power than it needed to disarm the Indians and that included artillery. The Sioux were already at a boiling point because most people don’t realize this, but Wounded Knee happened just two weeks after Sitting Bull was killed. Some say the Cavalry was waiting for an excuse to punish the Sioux tribe for Little Bighorn.
Whatever it was, Utley called it “a regrettable, tragic accident of war for which neither side as a whole may be properly condemned.” Article: Upside Down Under
There are some references to this in the simple Indian discourse by Dewey Beard (Iron Hail) who lost his family and was seriously wounded left in the freezing weather praying for death. I don't feel their was 'any' excuse for what happened but it has happened throughout history and in essence, whilst 7th Cavalry settled grudges, the broader context was crushing of the Sioux and their rebellious spirit. People like Varnum and Miles choking on what happened, speaks volumes and besides all else the freezing cold contributed quite a bot to behaviours. It is remarkable that dancing can induce unreasonable fear in military circles......... I understand, without having gone into it, that the medals awarded for that action were recently revoked and it seems this opened the wound again.

Geir Sorry Geir, I did try and change Norway to an English flag, but my skills don't go that far. Norway and England have close links and both are not a part of the EU.
