This is really too bad. Carl was a denizen of these boards for a long, long time and was always one of the nicest, most gracious people to have belonged here. He was also very unique, and one of the last of the survivors of the U. S. Army Constabulary that policed occupied Germany after World War II. He was the only person I have ever known to have done that or been a member of the constabulary, a unique army tradition.
I will miss Carl greatly. God bless you, my friend.
Humbled and with my very best wishes, Fred.

Carl He was a gentleman that refused to allow foolishness to pass unopposed. He spoke up for those who were denied the right to respond and called a knave a knave.
Go in peace my friend and God Bless you. Regards Dave

I learned last night that Ray Hillyer is terminally ill with liver and kidney cancer. His brother called me and asked if I would make sure Ray is remembered in the LBHA's "Newsletter," a publication Diane used to edit (and the best editor the "Newsletter" ever had).
I also felt it appropriate to post his situation here, since he was an old-time member posting under the moniker of "rch."
Ray and I and some others used to get together every few months and head off to some local, historic New York City pub, have our Little Big Horn round-table for a few hours, re-hash this event over and over again. Or we would meet at conferences... the last time in August last year when I gave a talk at St. Paul's Church Historic Site in Mount Vernon, New York.
Ray knew his stuff... he was quiet-spoken, kind, decent, eminently likable... just a real good guy. He was also a Vietnam veteran. His brother Stephen felt Ray's passing is only a matter of hours.
Pray for him, will you all? I shall miss him... a lot.
Best wishes, Fred.

It was always fun to be together, wasn't it? I hope you are well and staying safe... and I hope your family is doing well, too. The irony with us, is that my wife's mother died in May and she was always the limiting factor in our "mobility." That limit has been replaced by COVID, so hopefully the coming year will see some respite. Maybe we can all get together again: you, Bill, me. Do you remember Steve Schwartz? He just seemed to drop out of sight; I miss him, as well. He was another great guy. Anyway, I hope you stay safe. It would be marvelous to get together again. Very best wishes, Fred.

To all of you who remember him... Dan, Joe, and others...
My friend, Ray Hillyer, died on November 30. He was cremated and his ashes will be spread over two places where young boys go to dream, Forest Park in Queens, New York City, and Lake Ronkonkoma on Long Island. Speed on, my old friend.
With my very best wishes to all of you, Fred.
