I've seen this photo before and it's simply amazing! Just think, 1948, almost yesterday and we have warriors who fought at the LBH posing for a 20th-century photograph! This is not ancient history, this is almost now! I am honored to have been alive while these veterans (and they are veterans, regardless of who's "side" you were on) were alive and were able to tell us their side of the story of the LBH!

Never seen this photo, absolutely incredible.
The fact that participants lived on until the 50s, veterans of other Indian Wars even longer, and small bands of Apaches still roaming around in the Sierra Madres until...well at least the 40s, shows just how close in time things often portraied as (like crzhrs writes) ancient history these events are.
Not too sure about Groethe`s Canada-quote , but still...
