I have finally been able to return to reading about the LBH.
I have also tried but with no luck to find the answers to my following questions.
Does anyone know approximately what time Harry Reed left the rear and went north to join his uncles?
Also, does anyone think he took the same exact trail that custer had taken?

dan25,
You may want to look at Fred's timeline in "Strategy." It is said that Martini an he passed one another.

Tom, Thank you for the response. Fred's timeline only shows Martini passing Boston Custer at 1:22 PM, there is no mention of Harry. It also seems that no one else seen him since there is no mention of Harry Reed by any one.

Tom,
Thank you for the help. There is so little written about Harry, I assumed he, like Boston just decided to take off and join the column. I never read anywhere that he was already with Custer. Thanks again. regards dan25

I think the fact that Harry Reid was with Custer goes to Custer's state of mind and what he believed he was seeing and his assessments. Myself I think it shows that Custer's real time perceptions of the events were mistaken at best. It also may explain to some degree why Custer did what he did. We have a different reality of what Custer was experiencing. Although not and excuse it does show how tunnel vision works against you.

Does anyone know approximately what time Harry Reed left the rear and went north to join his uncles? Harry Reed was 18 years old and had signed on as a "herder." There is absolutely no indication, anywhere-- that I am aware of-- indicating Reed was anywhere but with George and Tom Custer at any time on the 25th. There is even some speculation it was Harry Reed who was the third person seen with George and Cooke by De Rudio when they were at 3,411. Personally I think it was Tom Custer-- it makes the most sense to me-- but I would never argue against Reed being that third person. He was clearly not with Boston, otherwise Edgerly and/or Martini would have mentioned it. In fact, I believe someone claimed a "lone" rider was seen approaching them as Benteen's column turned toward the morass... but I could be mistaken there. Best wishes, Fred.

Thanks Fred, Tom and AZ got me on the right track.
Fred, please check Montrose's thread on Theories.
Also, I finally did find something regarding Harry (Autie) Reed on line, a book preview, "Son of the Morning Star".
Custers orderly, John Burkman said the regiment was excited on the morning of the 25th. The colors were flying. Horses were dancing. Troopers laughed and joked, betting who would collect the most scalps. They told Berkman who had been detailed to the pack train, that they would be back by noon ready for a good feed. Autie Reed mounted on a horse beside his uncle Tom was happy. He had never seen a fight with Indians. Burkman suggested that he stay behind. Autie pulled one foot out of a stirrup, gave him a friendly kick and said, "you're mad because you can't go along."
