Operation Red Wings was a reconnaissance mission in Afghanistan that was blown, leading to the recon team being rolled up and the reaction force destroyed. The book and movie Lone Survivor are supposedly based on this action. There are serious discrepancies between the official story and what really happened. www.newsweek.com/2016/05/20/mohammad-gulab-marcus-luttrell-navy-seal-lone-survivor-operation-red-wings-458139.htmlNote that flawed accounts are not occurring forty years later, as at LBH but right away. There were errors in planning and execution in this mission. A false narrative hides an honest assessment of what went wrong. This leads to repetition of errors and future lost battles and dead people. Missions with high casualty rates like Red Wings and LBH create a high emotional content. The value laden environment makes true analysis difficult. I try to stay with a factual based account, and analysis on decision making and tactics. We may be a century past LBH, but battle analysis still remains a challenge, with respect to separating fact from fiction. Respectfully

No true investigation was done on the LBH. The amateur investigation has gone on for 140 years.

montrose If you are correct in your assessment of Operation Red Wings, which I do not doubt, why is the truth coming out so slowly and late? Is America so starved for heroes that we manufacture them or was this a case of the truth only being known within the SF orbit and they hesitated to allow the real facts emerge? Would love to know your thoughts. Regards Dave
