In the first recorded U.S. overseas land battle, Marines and soldiers capture Derne (Libya) during the First Barbary War - "... to the shores of Tripoli".

I'd support General James "Mad Dog" Mattis(USMC) for President. THAT would be awesome. But alas; like General "Stormin'" Norman Schwarzkopf(USA), the good General is too smart to get involved in the cesspool that is politics.
Respectfully Submitted, RebCav

Respectfully Submitted, RebCav Lest we forget Colin Powell who was also wise enough to thumb his nose at politics.

I had heard and seen rumors of this possible misidentification but am glad the matter has been corrected. Bravery deserves to be recognized and heroic acts acknowledged. I wonder if Bradley ever had any doubts about his participation?
No matter what if John Bradley was in the 1st or 2nd flag raising he was a hero. Regards Dave

Any Marine will tell you that any Navy corpsman is a hero period.
