HR owns his own wavelength, BABC (Blame Anybody But Custer). Truer words have never been written!!! Ol' HR is off wandering in Never-Never Land. You guys should try to go back and view some of his earlier posts, then read what Dark Cloud had written. Talk about entertainment...!!!Best wishes, Fred. Love free entertainment. I had mentioned that I followed both boards for months and am familiar with HR's methods. I will take a lokk at his shorter posts but 8 paragraph diatribes get passed over. Too bad because there is some knowledge there and links can be interesting.

HR floats in 4 dimensions his only anchor seems to be GAC. He however is the best researcher around and I have benifited greatly by his sourcing.

I may challenge him to directly answer a question but will never challenge his intelligence and creative wit. I do reserve the right to not invest time when I believe nonsense is posted by him, however.

Thank you AZ and Wild for info on the map. I am attempting to contact the bookstore at the Visitors Center. Regards Dave AZ You are correct that any could be arrested. The ones I remember are the individuals who demanded their constitutional right to be arrested. The ones who would not shut up, stop arguing and insinuating that my mother was a fallen woman. If you successful please let me know, thanks Magpie I have been unable to contact anyone at the LBH bookstore as of today. However I did find the contact information for Mike Bonafede through his law office in Loveland, CO and sent him an e-mail asking if he had access to copies of his map. No reply yet but if I do discover anything I will share it with the board. Regards Dave

I got through to the bookstore at LBH and they do not have any copies of Bonafede's map. Stated that it was out of print. Only hope left is to hear back from Mr. Bonafede and see if he has any copies left. Regards Dave

Dave, He wouldn't know me from Adam, but tell him an "author" has been recommending his map for several years and he really needs to see about re-publishing it. Believe me, it is an invaluable map and if I could get my hands on as couple more I would buy them just to have some extras. Best wishes, Fred.

DucemusOK - It says Big Village, a direction. It does not say bluffs, or east of river, or lower ford. It does say something like Come on! Which is advance. Benteen did not know Custer had diverged from Reno, if you believe what was stated. You are obviously a fan of the very silly Kuhlman. Of course we never got to hear about the message previously sent to Custer. If you want additional messengers, dream them up. Benteen's entire bent is that there was no big village until 'he' saw it, and there was no plan to attack the big village until he got the note telling him to go there quickly. Quite a few of those present at the Officer's call told it differently. Oh yes they did, so.......... you know. Just for you.... 'cos I love the compliments.

You make a lot of assumptions: -- have not read Kuhlman yet, how can I be a fan? -- Are you stating that Benteen did know prior to reaching Ford A that Custer and Reno divided? Proof? -- many officers stated that Custer did communicate a plan at officer's call? Will review that again. Very curious as to what constitutes "many" and what the plan was. -- Dream up messengers? Are you suggesting that I use your methodology for communicating a point of view about this battle?"

DucemusI disagree about assumption. Can help you out with Kuhlman and apologise, babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=mdp.39015003748863;view=1up;seq=11but his baloney underlies some really silly thinking and some quite amazing discussions. Like, erm..... Custer was wiped out because and when Weir and Edgerley advanced after him. The point of Benteen going to Custer BEFORE Reno retreated is, Benteen trots his three companies onto the bluffs, waving hats and blowing haloo's at Reno in the valley. How're they hanging Marcus....... I dreamt nothing up, the Ree scout carried a message to Custer at the end of the bluffs.

How're they hanging Marcus....... I dreamt nothing up, the Ree scout carried a message to Custer at the end of the bluffs. Which Ree scout and what message? I haven't read K. either. I know your Little Sioux model places Custer at Greater Ford B as Reno attacks or even earlier. I do not agree with any of this fixing nonsense, the enemy size is too great, he needed to be his brash self and attack and try to catch them off balance. Any delay, any at all and the Indians will size up the situation and act accordingly and with overwhelming force as indeed they did. There was no way for Benteen to bring up the packs any faster than he did and Custer knew it. The packs only reaching Reno's hill as Sitting Bull get's news that all of Custer's command is dead and he orders the Tepee's to be put back up. You still have to move those mules 2 miles to greater Ford B or 4 miles to LSH and the clock stops. I read your whole menu presentation and I had reread Reno's lawyers summation. I cannot perceive what you see. Even if Reno had side stepped the ditch and continued his charge through the glade and towards the village he would have expired long before Custer even saw Benteen and the packs. It's reasonable to assume as you say that Custer's request for packs to be brought up signals a change in his idea of when to attack. If so he should have stayed on Weir peak. He needed to inform Reno. Delay equals sacrificing Reno's entire command as his attack no matter how strong is doomed to stall with it's entire loss. He cannot be recalled he's reached the first Skirmish line or is about to, so even if he doesn't stop to dismount but charges through the glade to miss the ditch and then climbs up to the second high river plain and charges out of sight. He and his are dead men.

ADDED UPDATEAn article which is worth a read, because considering battle issues is best done without focus (IMHO) So, here is Reno's timber position. And Scott's Pitcsh relic mapping - The large cluster of yellow dot finds corresponds with the W.O. Taylor photo you sourced. The dry Oxbow was full as in it was the river in that photo. It's very clear in that photo a ditch leading to a large mouth as it joins the river, Tepee's set in that mouth on probably sand for comfort. The high bank of the river just beyond the tip of the Oxbow just as Gibbons described cutting to the second bank. On top of the bank sit's the two ranch houses and a very large hay corral with maybe 20 stacks of loose hay. Forage for the forts or the Bozeman trail. Same photographic location captured in circa 1916 with a marble marker in it (4X5 well focused negative by the looks of things. Taylor made no comments about river channel change just the clear cutting and any fool can see the whole area is being cut for hay so there went all the scrub of 1876.

I reread the article, as an old Indian war veteran who's few papers I have, kept that article too. The Scout say's Reno could not have done Custer any better. The journalist say's other wise. Who should be believed?
