Today, my wife Lisa and I had lunch in Beacon, New York, with Diane Merkel and her husband, Chuck. We met at noon and broke up after four. We talked and talked and talked... about lots of stuff. Diane Merkel is one of the loveliest people you could ever hope to meet. Her husband Chuck, could be a clone of that statement. I had never met him before, but boy-oh-boy!! WHAT AN ACE!!! It has been a long time since I have met two nicer, smarter, and fun people as Diane and Chuck.
If anyone here ever gets the chance, meet them. Your life will be enriched.
Best wishes, Fred.

I have read these boards for several years now but rarely post. I have to say how much I admire Diane and what she has done for this Board.
Also would like to say there our just a few people that make me keep reading on this subject that being you Fred, AZ Ranger, Diane and the late Darkcloud. I have never met any of you but think I could spend hours listening to each of you. DC was always blunt and straight forward, the same as you Fred and I appreciate that. To the three of you still here, don't leave, the boards would not be the same.
Doug
PS some day I would like to see both you Fred, and Steve at LBH. Diane also if she ever goes

Diane also if she ever goes Doug ("yankee"), What an awfully nice thing to say!! Especially about Dark Cloud. Personally, I always enjoy meeting people like you and it would be my pleasure and my privilege to meet you. I will be meeting my friends next June and we will be going to the LBHA conference in Rapid City, SD. Diane and her husband-- boy, you want to meet someone nice, you guys should all make an effort to meet these two!!! what marvelous people: fun, smart, decent... Chuck and Diane Merkel: you cannot get any better!!!-- will be in Billings, MT, around the 24th or so of June. Chuck has a get-together with a bunch of his Vietnam buddies and they have invited me as well, so we are going to try to get there too. It would be tremendous to get to meet as many of you all as possible... and as I said, meeting you would be a privilege. That isn't hyperbole or exaggeration: you have given me a tremendous compliment. And as for meeting Steve...? I can assure you, that would be a highlight: Steve Andrews is one of the most impressive people you will ever meet. Make the effort. Very best wishes, Fred.

Thank you both!!!
Fred, we thoroughly enjoyed our time with you and Lisa, and we could have talked all night. As it turned out, we would have enjoyed that more than the dinner we had and a tied soccer game. I hope you will be able to make it to Billings when we are there. It would be fabulous to have THE timeline expert explain the events to a bunch of newbies.
Tell Lisa I have the book she suggested.
Yankee, thanks very much. I am humbled to be put on the list with Fred, Ranger, and DC. The good Lord willing, I'm not going anywhere.
Diane
