Question for everyone who has been to the battlefield numerous times. What do you think are the most important points that a new visitor should take note of?

Beth, I've been to LBH three times, not sure if that qualifies as numerous. Advice to new visitors would be to read about it first, then visit the visitor center, then drive to the end of the battlefield road and read some more! After that just follow battle flow going from south to north. Does that make sense? Best, c.

I have been once, back in 2004 - where have the years gone? Chris gives very sound advice. I walked along to Weir Point/Peaks, stood atop and took a look at LSH through my binoculars. I must admit the visit left me with more questions than answers - the sheer scale of the battlefield, distances between sectors and the terrain really hit home just how little I really knew.

I have given a lot of thought to this subject in preparation for my planned visit next year (postponed from this) with my friend Jack.
I intend to get the MacElfresh Map and take it to Kinkos and get appropriate portions blown up. Once done I am going to use one to plot and mark all of the Reno/Benteen movements from Ford A onward.
On the second I will do the same for all of Custer's known and speculated movements from Ford A onward.
I intend to then concentrate on Reno/Benteen for the first half, looking at the valley before I ever enter the park. Upon entering the park go to the visitors center, then continue on with the second half of the Reno/Benteen story.
Once done, I will turn to the Custer portion.
There were two separate but related battles. I think they must be treated as such to gain a more clear understanding.
Off to Pueblo today. Confirmations in the morning, and I am one young man's sponsor, then River Walk for lunch and if its not to terribly hot a strole along the Arkansas

Chris: You are already confirmed. You shouldn't eat pizza with teens and tweeners at your advanced age, and the sun was very hot along the Arkansas. Oh you mean the maps prep. Well I just may require some assistance. Right now I have had enough religion and teen pop culture for one day. The good news is though, that all knew of Buddy Holly and Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. There is hope for youth after all. I need a nap.

Tom and Steve sounded like they were having a great time at LBH when I talked to them today.
Tom: The Child Bride said you were filling my head with impure thoughts and that you were to go straight to confession. The diet is still in place though. Tonight was grilled chicken over assorted weeds, with only a tablespoons worth of low fat dressing.

Chuck, try it with an English garden salad, it will be better than the weeds and even more filling if you are allowed a sliced hard boiled egg.

Ian: This is an diabolical plot on the part of the Child Bride. She tells me that a flake or two of paint has chipped off my military rock star all round stud muffin image of late. I have my marching orders - Do it or be put to the sword. No resistance is possible. She will prevail. Everything other than meat, preferably beef, and potatoes are weeds Ian. It just some weeds are better than others.

I know Chuck, but she has your best interests at heart, before you know it you'll be eating Qourn and Tofu.

Ian: That is where I will draw the line that cannot be crossed, even at the expense of loosing some of my stud muffin luster.

Steve and Tom are there now, but I don't know how long they plan to stay. I think Tom is monitoring the forum so he way weigh in.
