Yes, O'Reilly really danced around the truth. Seems they get maybe one fact correct, but then make all kinds of assumptions and connections that aren't there. At least they got the fact Custer got killed correct. Other than that, I was picking the thing apart. My wife got real tired of hearing my "objections". They showed Custer with 3 wounds., one in the center of his forehead. I was so discouraged I decided to put on something more historically accurate--"A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum."

I tell you what mystifies me about this thread and this crowd. There is not one of you that went into this O'Reilly thing with any illusions about learning something new. Each of you thought it would be a superficial fake, and still you watched, because of the magic words Custer and LBH, and for no other reason
This strikes me like something similar to watching election night coverage on the Cartoon Network, anchored by Daffy Duck, with Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd providing the in depth political analysis.
Why do each of you subject yourself to the root canal of this pap for the masses, the unwashed who are to goddamned lazy to read a book and research the subject. I will tell you why. The magic of those words Custer and LBH. You are all talking to a dead man, thinking that he is going to answer you, and he is not.
You all remind me what my father used to say when I asked him why he stayed through the whole game when the Bears beat the Redskins 72-0 for the title in 39 or 40. He would always say I thought it would get better.
There is more to life than that.

He would always say I thought it would get better. There is more to life than that. I watched it just to see why the show is so popular, its a big hit on Fox and they have renewed it for a second season--I waited at least for a subject I had a good working knowledge of. I was expecting the usual Reno was drunk, Benteen was angry and Custer was glorious. Instead well, if you didn't see it, it sort of defies all past tellings--it wasn't even close to anything you have seen before. And they didn't even try when it came to the actors they cast to play. Oh and the 'big Indian village had maybe a 3 dozen teepees--and they claimed there were only 500 warriors--I don't recall if that was in total or just facing Reno--who they had fighting then retreating all down an empty meadow. Benteen's scout was reduced to Benteen and his men sitting around in the distance guarding the supplies. Oh and there wasn't a single bluff to be seen anywhere even though it claimed the reason Custer's attack failed was because Custer and his men couldn't see each other due to the hills. BTW next week is person that Lone Ranger is based on. I can't remember the name right now other than Reid. (Forgive me)

The biggest reason I watched was for the scenery. I always jump at the opportunity to see more of the landscape. It is all so alien looking to a kid from the hills of North Miss who only had 1 chance to be there in 2003. One thought regarding the motive for people to watch this show following along with QC's thoughts, is that people are so lazy they only want something barley skin deep when it comes to history. So very sad. Regards Dave

All of you are very intelligent people. None of you would walk down a dark alley after midnight in a strange city, none of you. Why then if the alley was named Custer Alley, and the city Little Big Horn Township, would any of you throw reason to the four winds, and walk that alley?
Won't watch that either. I saw Clayton Moore in person at the DC National Guard Armory when I was about eight. That's enough. Want to see Clayton without the mask try to get the serial "Commando Cody and the Rocket Men From Mars". The good guy Commando Cody, had a rocket ship with a control panel mounted on an old G I metal desk, and sat in a war surplus gray swivel chair. Republic Studio spared no expense. When he wanted to leave the ship in flight, he put on his jet pack, crawled outside the rocket ship (in flight mind you) and descended to earth to fight the evil doing rocket men who had allied themselves with Moore and his gang of cutthroats and they all hung out in a cave in Santa Monica. Oh yes when he was not flying around in space Cody flew around in a P40 mock up left over from the 1942 Flying Tigers with Wayne.
Then there was the Copperhead. The bugger wore the same suit and tie in all twelve episodes, but when he put on his Copperhead mask no one recognized him.
Now when O'Reilly does Commando Cody and the Copperhead, I will be front row center.
Then there was John Carroll playing Zorro in Zorro's Fighting Legion, wearing a wrist watch.
Now this is history boys and girls and you have learned more in the last four paragraphs than you learned in that entire hour.

You know sometimes one can just watch something for the hoped for entertainment value. I was expecting something along the usual fluff. I did not expect such a totally new take on the story. Another gem. Custer was the bottom of his class at West POint, not because he was dumb, but everyone below him apparently quit to go fight the war.

Sorry guys, but just what programme are you referring to? is it a TV show about Custer or the BLBH? If so can anyone give me its full title and I will try and get hold of it by the power of the internet.
Ian.

I wouldn't spend a whole lot of time looking it.

I watched to see how many myths and mistakes they would make, not to learn anything new. I was not disappointed. There were many mistakes and skin-deep analysis of known facts, and the conclusions they drew were very off-mark. It was nothing but a puff-piece, and I didn't expect anything different.

Beth Funny it didn't look like Omaha or Eastern Iowa from St Joe to Omaha that is. Regards Dave More Nebraska along the Platte. Or in Oklahoma. I'm pretty sure that their Washita battlefield doubled as LBH. St. Joe to Omaha would take you through Western Iowa, not Eastern and it's a very unique area because of the Loess Hills. I won't get all geology on you but they are really cool.

I am no where near the LBH historian most of you are. I have walked the battlefield a couple times and have done most of the mainstream reading. I for one found this episode to be absolutely a disgrace to anyone looking for the truth in history. The only Legend and Lie in this show was Mr. Orielly and his presentation of Custer and the men involved in the LBH. I for one will be going to the show site on Facebook and posting about how terrible this was. Maybe some of you who are more versed than I am in the topic should consider doing this.

Welcome to the board. I didn't realize that Fox had a FB for the site. So are you from Idaho? Edited to add: I checked out the FB page but left know comment. Lets just say Bill O'Reilly knows his viewers. Those there are a few complaining that it was a liberal plot at revisionist history to coddle Native Americans--or something like that.
