Good to see you here Henk AZ Ranger and Benteeneast on that other board Steve, Many thanks for your welcome! And you don't have to tell me who you (your noms the plume) are, I won't forget what you wrote about your experiences while visiting the battlefield on horseback. Essential stuff, for someone who knows horses only from looking out of his window. Best regards, Henk

Fred: Chapter 17 "Hell In A Very Small Place" I can assume the chapter's content, but that is not material to why I am posting. You may be inadvertently running into copyright infringement using that title as it is the title of Bernard B. Fall's exceptional book on Dien Bien Phu. You might want to have your publisher check into that before you press any further forward. That book is old but still in print so I suspect the copyright still very valid and current.
Henk: let me add my welcome to that of Steve and others. I have followed you closely on the other board, and I expect nothing but good things from you here.

Today is the last day of September.... This morning I received an e-mail from McFarland & Company; The Strategy of Defeat at the Little Big Horn is scheduled to go to the printer at the end of October.
Hang on boys and girls.... Armageddon is near.
Best wishes, Fred.

Fred, Just received my copy of "Strategy" in the mail yesterday. Started reading last night. All I can say is: FANTASTIC! This book will have to be read several times in order to truly absorb all that you have placed there. Macfarland ships very quickly, so order there if you don't want to wait on the other outlets.

Colt... Thank you very much. Comments like yours are particularly valuable to me because, like Montrose, QC, WO, AZ, BC, and some others, you guys are pros. You have "been there" and done it. And that does not mean other comments are not just as valuable to me. I wish only that the book is readable and makes sense... and that your money is well spent. Oh, and by the way, you are always better off ordering from McFarland. They do ship quickly, and of course, they have the supply. The difference is in the $5 or so shipping cost. Thank you, very much, Colt. Best wishes, Fred.

Fred
Got my first hour into the book and its excellent. The approach could not be any better. We spend lots of time discussing on the boards on who to blame for what happened especially if they had done something different. You cut off that part of the discussion by looking at what occurred and ignore the personal filters we often use. I like the Benteen scout part because we argue whether he was dawdling or not be the bottom line is that he arrived in Reno Creek behind Custer and ahead of the pack train. That is fact and dawdling or not that is where arrived at a time certain to be behind Custer and ahead of the pack train. Brilliant
Had to jump ahead to the timelines and look at speeds because its in my nature. They look great to me and the overall speeds are reasonable. I could never buy that cavalry moving to contact would travel at 3-4 mph.
This is certain to be a must have book for a serious student and the guidance on the approach regarding personalities involved should be highlighted by the readers.
Thanks for all of efforts.
Now back to the book
Regards
Steve Andrews

Steve... I do not even know what to say.
Knowing your background and the things you have done in your life, my hoary old phrase of being humbled by these comments, has never been more true than now.
I can only thank you... and all the rest of you for your kindness.
Very best wishes, Fred.
