The mistake we make here is in assuming people on the other board can read and comprehend. That's where we lose them, expecting a discussion of rational thought and LBH at the same time.

Clair is posting again. I find that I missed his posts. He is the funniest poster on these boards.
His mantra is that LTC Custer never made an error in his life. He is the perfect hussar officer.
Here is what I do not understand. In the extensive literature on battle analysis, can anyone name another example where the dominant theory is that the commander did everything right, but was failed by his subordinates? In a loss.
Battle of Minden, and a War of The Roses fight. I just find this hero worship at LBH carried to a ridiculous level.
Just a reminder, this god like Achilles was convicted by court martial for gross incompetence and poor decision making in 1867.
Now I will not go the opposite extreme and paint him as the devil (Kathy Bates, Waterboy reference). He had a mixed career in the post ACW Army, with successes and failures.
