16AA is currently structured as a platoon sized unit plus attachments.
The principle fighting force of 16AA is A Company 1 Platoon. 1 Platoon is comprised of three full rifle sections - each section being comprised of eight members or more. Each section is led by a Corporal (as the section commander), who is in turn supported by a Lance Corporal (as second-in-command). The remaining slots in each section are filled with six or more riflemen (privates). Each section is split into two four man fire teams, referred to as Charlie and Delta - each one led by a Corporal and Lance Corporal respectively.
In addition to three infantry sections 1 Platoon also has attached one section from 2 Platoon that act as a specialist Fire Support section. The specialist role of the Fire Support section gives A Coy HQ much greater tactical freedom.
In addition to its ground elements, 16AA also has a flight section - 656 Squadron 1 Flight. 1 Flight is comprised of 4 or more pilots and is primarily concerned with rotary wing flight duty. The Flight Section is led by a Flight Lieutenant who is in turn supported by a Flying Officer. The remaining members of 1 Flight are designated Pilot Officers. 1 Flight is currently able to deploy Griffin, Lynx, Merlin and Chinook helicopters in the air assault, CASEVAC and heavy lift (resupply) roles. In addition, 1 Flight is occasionally called upon to provide fixed wing fire support.
