For those who care, there is a very good book review in today's New York Times, regarding a book titled, Lincoln's Code, by a Yale University Law School professor named John Fabian Witt.
The book is about how America handled the so-called "laws of warfare," and how those laws were more or less institutionalized by Lincoln's foremost wartime legal authority, Francis Lieber.
While the review does not get into the Indians Wars, specifically, it mentions the book covers that era as well.
The reviewer called the book magnificent and it certainly touches on aspects of warfare we have discussed on these boards.
$32, Free Press.
Best wishes, Fred.
