Hello Everyone, This is a great board! There are tons of good posts here! My family and I just returned from a visit to the Little Bighorn. I had read Donovan's book a couple of years ago and I was hooked. My 7 year old son is probably the youngest Liittle Bighorn buff around. After leaving the battlefield he wanted to drive to West Point and visit custer's grave! I live in North Carolina and work for the railroad, but I am also a writer of sorts. I published a book called Fireballs (a history of meteors) a few years back and I am currently working on a biography of Boston Corbett (who shot John Wilkes Booth.) I will post some pics of my recent visit.
All the best! Craig

My welcome too Craig. Have you ever been to the place where Corbett whacked Booth?

My welcome too Craig. Have you ever been to the place where Corbett whacked Booth? I have never been to Garrett's farm. However I am planning a visit there in the spring. However, I have been to his dugout outside of Concordia Kansas. Corbett was an eccentric character. He was committed to an insane asylum in Kansas after pulling a gun on the Kansas state legislature.

Craig Craig, that is the single most encouraging news about the future of our subject that I have ever seen. There has been quite a lot of discussion in recent times about encouraging younger people to join the various organisations that exist to further knowledge about Custer/LBH and you and your son appear to be ideal candidates for such a purpose. Should you be interested I recommend the Custer Battlefield Historical & Museum Association, Inc., at www.custerfield.org and Friends of the Little Bighorn Battlefield at www.FriendsLittleBighorn.com as they are both very welcoming and worthy organisations. Yes . . . it is vitally important that younger people get involved with history . . . any history that could result in change for the better. Let's all learn what history tell us. What's that saying: those that fail to learn from history will commit the same mistakes . . . and the last thing we need is to fail to learn from our mistakes . . . unless you are a narrow-minded, bigoted, racist that thinks the only good Indian is a dead Indian.
