Here is one Sole Survivor I never heard of -- gold! The Huffington Post linked to the article, so you know it must be true.  Excerpt: The story of the Far West becomes confusing at this point. Some researchers agree that gold was on board the supply boat, but they disagree on how it got there. What's more, they agree that the gold was buried onshore, but they disagree on its precise location. There is more on that subject in "Custer's Ghosts Custer's Gold" by Donald W. Moore (2007). Of course the title alone should give one an idea of the factual backround of the case. But should anyone be interested in hearing quite a bit more on the subject, that's a good place for it.
