Hello everyone, I hope that I am posting this in the right place on here!!! I am trying to decide which chapters of my Dads book to send off for reading-and low and behold, I have no clue. I do know that a few of you have had the privelege of pre-reading a few chapters..... So I was hoping that whoever had read them could give me a heads up on what the chapter is called or numbered, so I can send one of those??? Thank you in advance for reading this posting, and a big thank you to Diane for helping me thru this journey thus far Tori, Daughter of MOC

Oh, boo! I hoped someone would speak up.
C'mon, guys. I remember a couple of people mentioning that Gordie sent them some of his work.
Help Tori!

Tori-
Gordie never said what he considered ‘ready’ and what he didn’t, as far as the chapters in his book go.
What I had received, by mail, bore no page numbers or chapter titles (I don’t think). There is the following heading at the top of what I assume is the lead page of one chapter:
RECONSTRUCTING THE DEATH SITES ON CUSTER FIELD - AN EXAMINATION OF THE MARKER LOCATIONS
The best of my recollection is that Gordie said it was chapter three, but DO NOT hold me to that. In any case, the first full paragraph on the fifth page of that section mentions markers 92, 93, 57 and 58 as being outside the fenced area on ‘Last Stand Hill.’
I simply pointed out that marker 92 is definitely within the fenced area, which was the only discrepancy I could see among those pages. Gordie did write back saying he was adding that to a list of details which remained to be cleared up during his next planned visit. A visit, which we all know, never happened.
I cannot say if he was referring to an actually physical list of questions written in some sort of notebook, or just kept in his head. I would think that he was referring to written notes. It might be a short list as he indicated that he felt he’d nailed down nearly everything he could think of save a ‘few little points.’
Wish I had more help to offer, but most of what we discussed about his book was simply a matter of theories, notions and opinions, and not anything of factual relevance that would impact accuracy.

Tori, I just went through the stuff he sent me. He had offered to send more but I didn't take him up on it all.
I have one chapter which we were discussing at the time titled "The Approach to the Little Horn - Reno's and Custer's March -" . This basically deals with going down Reno creek from the divide. Don't quote me on it since I have nothing in writing but chapter 13 sticks in my mind and maybe it was said on a thread.
A review of our pm's suggests he had a series of naratives for chapters and then appendicies. I didn't ask for any others.
He also sent me some topos and a list of geographical coordinates that includes things like the crow's nest and "the other crow's nest" as well as Benteen's routes on the 3 ridges, the morass water hole and the location of "Benteen's second watering" (which isn't mentioned anywhere else as far as I know). It also has Martini's departure from Sharpshooters and the northern fords/ford D where Custer attacked and E company fired volleys into the camp there.
He also sent me his timeline. I guess I didn't see it in the pile till now. Interesting reading.
Lastly he sent me his itenerary for his 2010 trip. He indicated he wasn't sure of the exact location where the Reno valley firing line occurred but knew what happened. He quoted Weibert and these minicoujous that were camped up Shoulder Blade Creek aways who came down and flanked Reno. He was supposed to meet a couple miniconjous on the trip to go over that area. There was more than one Reno line of retreat he was going to look at.
A review of my pm's also indicate a nice compliment from him to Darkcloud.

Hi Tori,
Do the headings "Benteen's March with Maps" and "Reno and Custer's March" ring any bells? If not, I suggest that you check out my e-mail of August 13th 2009. Should you not have that available, please e-mail me and I will repeat the information.
I hope you have now settled down in your new house.
Regards.

I'm sure it is a difficult task.
You don't need to send consecutive chapters. They are just trying to get a feel for Gordie's writing to judge if they want to see more.
Gordie would be proud of you!

Knowing next to nothing of his work (a euphemism for 'absolutely nothing' beyond that it existed), I'd encourage you, before sending ANY of it off, to make sure it's protected in his or your name, especially regarding any info unique to his experience.
Custerland is a closed community and anything new or merely arguable as new has status above the norm. Once the info is out there you can't herd it back it and only then brand it, and - worse case - you may find someone else's brand on it in a quick-to-press magazine article by an 'author' who had access to the manuscript or to the conversation of someone who had.
Best wishes for the project.

I actually hold all the rights to his work. Made sure of that right away! So if someone else uses it without my permissions, they will have the good ol copyright plagerism laws to deal with I would like to thank you all for your continued support...my head spins reading all of this! I dont know how you all retain all this information! Let alone enough to argue it! My hats off to you all Daughter of MOC

Well today is a rough day...I am listening to Rick Nelson and crying, while getting all these chapters in order and hopelessly trying to read at the same time...(I know I must like to torture myself) Man. Its days like these that I dont think I can do it. Still cant sit in his chair, but I can sit beside it and cry to him, and yell at him (shhh dont tell him) for not leaving me instructions, for leaving me alone to do this, for maybe putting too much belief in my ability to do this for him. Wow, so thats my pity party for today. I would like to thank all of you for your help thus far....I couldnt do it without you.
But I found some interesting print outs between Dad and 'Fred'....

If the printouts from Fred are mean, please disregard them. He was delusionally paranoid that your father was stalking him on the boards. I believe Fred has since realized that he was wrong, and I think your father forgave him.
