Can anyone recommend good books on Gettysburg, besides the book by Stephen Sears? Thanks in advance.

The Cavalry at Gettysburg by Edward Longacre. A tactical study of mounted operations from 9 June to 14 July 1863. My favorite cw book. More action than you can imagine.

Some books that I recommend are: Gettysburg-A Testing of Courage by Noah Trudeau, Gettysburg-Day Three by Jeffry Wert, The Gettysburg Campaign by Coddington, Gettysburg-Culp's Hill and Cemetery Hill by Pfanz. Pfanz also has another one that I can not remember the title (perhaps something like Gettysburg-Day One).

I'll have to try the Trudeau book. Read anything but Coddington first as he goes deep, deep, deep. As I was told by a CW discussion group, it definitely should not be your first book on Gettysburg. Pfanz has at least three good reads: Gettysburg-The First Day; Gettysburg-The Second Day and Culp's Hill. Three other good ones: our Eric Wittenberg's & J.D. Petruzzi & Mike Nugent's One Continuous Fight about Lee's retreat from G'burg and by Wittenberg & Petruzzi, Plenty of Blame To Go Around about Stuart's participation at Gettysburg. The third is Glen LaFantasie's Twilight at Little Round Top. There are several other good reads about G'burg: Nolan's The Iron Brigade; Rod Gragg's Covered With Glory: The 26th North Carolina Infantry at the Battle of Gettysburg (it is an ideal read with The Iron Brigade as they decimated each other there); George R. Stewart's Pickett's Charge: A Microhistory of the Final Attack at Gettysburg, July 3, 1863. This one isn't about G'burg but since I just finished reading it and was very pleasantly surprised, you might pick up from the library John J. Hennessy's Return to Bull Run. A very enjoyable book. Be good, Billy P.S. This isn't a history book but it is as good as it gets: Michael Shaara's The Killer Angels.

The Evil Administrator is tempted to delete these book ads. Rather than keep pestering us, why don't you start a topic of interest somewhere? You can quote from your book and add a link to it, but all you are doing now is assuring that I won't buy it.
