This was the first book I read on Custer and the LBH, which though I'm no expert on matters, found it readable but lacking, I wanted something more in-depth.

SOTMS seems to be very polarizing-love it or hate it. I enjoyed it immensely but my crazy mind allowed me to follow the meandering nature of the book. If you are looking for gobs of detail and information organized in a linear manner, it’s not the book for you. I thought it set an interesting tone, provided plenty of information in a meandering manner and stayed away from overt biases. Strictly my opinion.

Even if this was discussed and is in the archives, I still wanted to get recent opinions about it. Is it considered an authoritative book by most of the folks here? I see they think very highly of it and it has rave reviews elsewhere. Anything to be aware of in reading it? Thanks in advance. I see this is an incredibly old thread, but Connell's book is excellent. I've read it 4 times. Connell was a novelist and his writing is superb, especially for those who are new to the topic, which makes it possible to finish the book and be intrigued enough to look further into the subject. That's what happened to me. Now I'm drowning in it!
