An item purported to be DeRudio's walking stick, engraved with name, 6/25/1876, and crossed sabers under a "7," not described as coming from the Black Pipe Museum, is on sale on eBay. Think I'll stick to stuff I dug up myself, though. MA

Well, I do have to say the engraving is correct to the style of the period. It is either original engraving or hand done by someone who knows his material culture (unlike so many fraudulent items these days). And remember, bamboo was considered a bit of an exotic in those days, so would be valued more than today. But why just the date? Sure, LBH might be the biggest thing in his career, but why not say 'Little Bighorn' or something? Not simply the sabre insgnia and just that date--doesn't sound right. Most period things commemorating a battle like that always mention the battle sooner than the date. Hmmmm......

I just hunted for it. Look under Little Bighorn--there will be a ton of junk, but on page two I found it...but the list goes forward as auctions are ended--it might be gone already. Try searching under DeRudio's name I think I did that too. But I do think it's already gone by now. A strange object--one of those 'well...maybe' sorts of things--not a laughable fake, but then not quite right either...makes you wonder....

Diane, I just went and looked again--it's still there and the bid is up to $1,000.00 I wrote Little Bighorn on the search, all catagories, and when all the junk came up it was still the top item on page two. I didn't take note of when the bidding ends...but somebody is going to get it, so I'd look right away.
