Welcome, busted spur.
What a perfectly delightful first posting. Just the thing - first thing in the morning. I think you'll fit in. We've been lacking a CSI Montana in the worst way.
We did have a guy once who wanted to dig up dead people so he could stare at them, and determine... well, whatever it was he had in mind that he be determined. But, nothing as scientific as what you've offered.

Done a few body recoveries myself. Temperature plays a great part. Summer in the Verde Valley hits over 100 and Vick's and Cigars are necessary equipment.

If the E troopers were found in a ravine near ford B(Medicine Tail Coulee, doesn't that back up the stories that say the troops tried to cross the stream there? Gall supposedly crossed there and said the troopers didn't get anywhere near the river.
Did Crazy Horse cross at a ford further south?
How about that 2000 ft. distance that Kanipe said was from the Custer monument to the E troopers? Does that distance match up with any deep ravine?

Desert,
That distance IS the approximate location to the headcut of deep ravine (2,000 feet). Also, there actually was a ford at Deep Ravine (and was used by Crazy Horse).

Is Crazy Horse gully(as one soldier called it) either Deep Ravine or Cemetery Ravine?
How close to Ford D is the ford where Crazy Horse crossed?

Okay - I will say this just one more time for those of you who have not been paying attention.
Crazy Horse Ravine or Gully is indeed the ravine popularly known as Deep Ravine, as opposed to Deep Coulee, that hill over there, and this ridge here.
Write this down for future reference - there will be a snap quiz when you least expect it: "Crazy Horse crossed at Ford B, while Crazy Horse was crossing at Ford C, and Crazy Horse was crossing at ford D. Gordie said this, and I believe it. Gordie said this, and I believe it. Gordie said this, and I believe it."

You can believe him..................

Was the whole ravine searched or just the top part?

There are a couple of books out that detail the modern searches. Mincho's 'Mystery of E Troop', Richard Fox has one and he also has one out with Douglas Scott I believe. The information is available.
