Hello from Kansas, the NOT flat state. I have been obsessed by the Little Bighorn battle since I learned to read. Granted, that first book was Tonka, but it started a lifetime obsession. I even had two horses I named Comanche. I made my first pilgrimage to the battlefield in 2006. All the trip created was more questions! I'm planning on going back, by myself, and spending several days.

zekesgirl:
"Welcome" echoes down the hills, and bounds across the plains, and stuff like that. Glad to have another young lady on the boards. If you are planning on going back to LBH anytime soon, you might consider this year in the period June 21-23, when the Little Bighorn Associates is having their annual conference in Billings. There will be many "experts" available to help you find your way around [most of them are more than happy to help anyone, especially relative newcomers to the subject].
The Custer Battlefield Historical and Museum Association will hold their annual meeting on several days around the anniversary, and so will the Friends of The Little Bighorn, who provide docents on the battlefiield - so there will be plenty to do and see [including re-enactments of the fights] and plenty of people to help you out in the period from, say, 20 - 26 June.
If you are thinking in terms of 2010, you might keep an eye out for a future posting by me concerning a trip in July [less busy than around the anniversary] of that year covering about twelve days, and several very special places. It'll cost a few bucks, but will be well worthwhile.
Stay tuned, and, as Diane said, don't be afraid to juimp right in with opinions, questions, or theories [if ya got 'em]. Most everyone here is happy, well-adjusted and courteous, and some even know what they're talking about.
About half the people who join this august body never do post anything, which means the rest of us miss out on a lot.
Have fun and participate..........please.
Gordie

Thank you all for the welcome and I was thinking of visiting in 2010! Guess I'll start putting some money back because a trip that would go to some 'special places' sounds fantastic!!

Well, another breath of fresh air, untainted by the aroma wafting from far, far, far Western Kansas (or is that far, far, far Eastern Utah?). Overland Park here and BC is from somewhere south almost at the Okie border. I believe one or two more are Kansans but don't participate, likely because they have been run over by Misery drivers-you know, where the state motto is "Show Me How To Drive". Enjoy yourself and don't be afraid of asking questions as there are an awful lot of knowledgeable folks on here regarding the Custer-Cluster and the Indian Wars in general who are more than glad to help. Well now, bc just may be close to me. I'm less than 20 miles from Okiedom myself.

Hi Z girl. Welcome to the board. I'm from central Kansas. Participate where you can and you are sure welcome to join into the comedy routine around here. Less than 20 miles from Okiedom, that's about close enough to pick up the Okie accent, heaven forbid!!
And we all know why it is so windy in Kansas. Cause Nebraska blows and OKlahoma sucks! Or is it cause Colorado blows and Missouri sucks? Oh well, same difference.

Billy, can you travel over and meet this girl and tell me if she's hot? Thank you.
Just kidding. Welcome!
I won't mention the shirt I saw about the myth of the flatness of the Midwest. And I definitely won't post the pic. Might be too much for most of you.

El Crab--does that imply you're grouchy or maybe you go around pinching all the girls in Reno?

They do, if you can chip the body out of the ice, and, hopefully, warm it up a bit. The latter, however, is not deemed entirely necessary. Gives a whole new meaning to "frigid."

If any of them moved to Reno they could become rich and not even have to gamble. Forget your shirt picture, Broken Sword posted a picture a while back of the typical Custer cluster babe. bc
