Melani - "...Now back to California..."
Better hurry. I hear they've been burning it down since you've been gone. Or burning it up... not sure which. Same, same either way.

So I smile and say: "When a lovely state fries, smoke gets in your eyes."
Or as George would say: "We should hurry up with that off-shore drilling thing before there ain't nowhere left to run the pipelines through - or maybe these fires are a good thing - less bulldozing required."
Or as some might declaim from the pulpit: "I say the Wrath of God is upon them, friends........"
Sorry about the frivolity, folks - we in Beautiful British Columbia are quite familiar with wildfire events. The only reason we haven't chipped in some water bombers and firefighters is that we've already committed our total resources here. As soon as we can spare some, you can bet they'll be on the way, same as the last couple of years.

Well, it's pouring rain in Chicago, the Mississippi bridges were closed in some places when we crossed in the other direction, and California is having a drought! Too bad we can't transport parts of the weather from one place to the other.
The Troop I guidon is in truly terrible condition. It looks just like the photos we've all seen of it--mostly shreds and holes. There is also the rather testy note from Anson Mills saying it was in good condition when he loaned it out, and this is how he got it back. Bummer.
