The trailer looks pretty good, I'm interested to see how they handle the content.

Interesting article . . . but alas, they had to have a "white" antagonist" as one of the main characters. Not to mention the "tinkering" with history.
And the portrayal of SB as an "egotistical, often brutal leader whose pride endangered members of his tribe as they suffered through famine, drought and disease" is not fully accurate and somewhat insulting.
What can you expect from TV/Hollywood's version of history?

I was afraid of this. Even the original book, while a milestone in public education, contains many inaccuracies. And from that NYT article (thanks E.) the film sounds like an abomination. The saddest part is that the average Joe will likely view the thing as fact. Eastman at the LBH? Good grief. And....... To its credit, HBO’s version of “Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee” does not glamorize Sitting Bull, but rather portrays him as he was: an egotistical, often brutal leader whose pride endangered members of his tribe as they suffered through famine, drought and disease. Huh? To it's CREDIT? I'm just shaking my head.

That line about "using history as it serves the narrative" (or however it's worded) says it all, really.

I read the NYT article. One thing that caught my attention was the fact that Dee Brown didn't want to surrender his book to Hollywood to make a movie because he didn't trust Hollywood. Good choice on his point. I knew western novelist Terry C. Johnston. I asked him if any of his books would ever be made into a movie, and he basically said the same thing as Dee Brown: distrust of Hollywood. Terry didn't want to turn his book over to a place or someone who would almost make it unrecognizable as his original work. But Terry's Plainsman series was so good, I'd love to see a couple of them be made into a movie. I'd also love to see Frederick Chiaventone's books "A Road We Do NOt Know" and "Moon of Bitter Cold" made into movies.

Most of SB's contemporaries saw him that way. It's perhaps time to wake up and forget the dream of the "Good Savage". SB was eve mocked by the Lakotas when he came on a boat after his surrender.
I hope the movie will also depict the true Ghost Dance, which is far more violent that it is depicted in movies like "Hidalgo". Have Indians forgotten that churches were attacked on Christmas by the Ghost Dancers ? That Ghost Dancers almost killed a man to prove the reality of the "bullet shirts"? These guys weren't religious peacekeepers. It was a real, violent, uprising which was planning bloodbaths in the Plains.

So ... did anybody see Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee last night? Did it reveal the true character of the coming "bloodbath" of the Ghost Dance? BTW, CSS ... those words used to describe Sitting Bull above can--with one small change--also be used in regards to Custer! It is not too surprising to see similar traits between leaders of regard ... or of little regard, depending upon one's outlook.

It is not too surprising to see similar traits between leaders of regard ... or of little regard, depending upon one's outlook. Custer was proud and arrogant. No one could deny it. Legendary figures are not modest. BTW, I just received on my email two messages from alleged Native Americans : one sent me a song, the other threaten me of death with scalping. Shirley Danish, the name of my future killer (webmater of the Crazy Crow powwows www.crazycrow.com/ ), said that a lot of Indians would dream to have my head on their walls. She just made my day. How hilarious it was. ;D
