I am addressing the members of the 7th Cavalry Association, LBHA, historians and other organizations, members interested in support of 20 stamp-set of "Heroes of the Civil War" for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the great American drama in which 620,000 American lives were lost.
The year this has to be presented to the Citizen's Advisory Council in Washington DC is by April of 2008. The years to release these stamps to the public is 2011-2015.
The late Brian Pohanka and myself developed this list that includes many brave Americans.
The list includes among others, 3 women (one who was the first American women to be awarded the MOH) One of these women fought for the Confederacy.
One African-American, a member of the famed 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He, also was the first black soldier to receive the MOH.
One American-Indian, who was the secretary of Lt. General U. S. Grant. He would become Secretary of Indian Affairs in the Grant administration.
The group of Civil War heroes includes many MOH recipients, equally representing the Eastern and Western Theaters of battle.
I have letters of endorcement from Robert Utley, Louise Barnett, Brian Pohanka, Fred Chiaventone, Greg Urwin.
I would like the support of any Civil War organization, so we can present this list to represent our rich heritage and history during this 150th anniversary.
General George A. Custer is also listed in this group. Brian, Greg U and others listed believe he is long overdue for this recognition on a US Stamp.
Please contact me if you would like to sign on to the list of signatures to be presented next year.
