Of course, Harps. That's why I've never extended you the same courtesy.
Best wishes, Fred.

I don't want this to sound too harsh, but, uh, Fred ... meet Fred.

Trish--
Don't hold back, kiddo. Lay it all out. I'm just in the mood for it. Explain it in very simple terms so poor ol' Fred can understand it.

Benteen wasn't that unusual a man. I don't think he had much patience with people he perceived as fools or blowhards. He didn't wear his heart on his sleeve either. He often griped privately to his wife and some other confidantes about the people who irritated him but usually treated people well publicly. Gibson's wife is a perfect example. Most people do the same thing. We wave to the neighbor we don't like much and then tell the spouse the shmuck was outside. How many of us politely talk to co-workers at work but wouldn't be caught dead having a drink with them afterwards because we find them annoying? Some of us outwardly show our disdain for the dumb co-worker while most hide it until we get home and then vent to our spouse about the idiot at work. Benteen was generally nice in public to subordinates he had little respect for (Gibson) and outwardly showed his disdain to the superior ranking officers such as Custer and a few others. At least he can't be accused of brown-nosing.

Benteen had a number of high mucky-mucks as pall bearers for his funeral. He may have felt more comfortable with educated, wealthy people than those he dealt with in the military.
I was in the military and you do find a whole range of people from qualified & intelligent to barely conscious and motivated.
Sorta like when a great athlete become a coach . . . very difficult to deal with lessers who don't have his ability.

The reason I wanted to move this out of Independent Research was because we're instructed NOT to argue here. Fair enough. This was designed for the likes of Easter Coloradoan Markham to provide direction for research. This topic never should have been here, having zippo to do with the category.

Mr. Darkcloud,
Respectfully, I believe the post you moved from Independant Research is now in the Custeriana thread.

I recall reading that most of the Benteen's close friends were not in he military.
Benteen chose his friends, and he seems to have preferred them UNmilitary.

Go here: lbha.proboards12.com/index.cgi#mainwhat are Merkel's instructions under Independent Research? Far as I know, Montana, none of my posts were moved. I started a new thread there, is all. Another courageous slam by conz. What would be the basis for that accusation about Benteen? Given he was raised into lower rank of general before his death? Evidence?

Anybody that gets the Mayor of Atlanta and the President of Coca Cola as pall bearers must have had some connections and/or influence somewhere.
