Just what "parts" are buried there?

At Leavenworth? I suspect a bone or two found near where they think they buried each man.

Nice shot, Billy. I'm kind of surprised they didn't include his ACW brevet rank upon said tombstone ... Actually, now that I think of it, I am more surprised that it has his Civil War rather than his regular army organization engraved upon it. I will attempt to find the Yates and Calhoun markers but I believe that they both have 7th Cav. on them. Billy

I think the stone is in error as to his organization. I don't think he was in the 7th Ohio Cavalry, but I may be mistaken on that point. I think they may have a "bastardized" inscription, partly this and partly that.

I thought I had all of the stones from Fort Leavenworth but could only find Calhoun and little Kate Benteen.

<snip> and little Kate Benteen. I perhaps mentioned this before but the graves of the 7th Cav. officers killed at LBH are slightly higher and about four rows directly behind Kate's grave, almost as if looking out for her on her journey. Yeah, sentimental rubbish, but I like the thought. Billy

Sweet thought. It's amazing that it took until 2003 for the Benteen family to find her grave when she was so close to the others.
Billy, those aren't photos you sent me. They are from the 2003 LBHA conference. I'll keep looking for yours, but they were sent two dead laptops ago. (Thank goodness I got religious about backing up!)

If anyone else wants those gravestone photos, PM me or email me. Eventually I will put them on the web site but.... Billy
