I think Crzhrs' feat of more than 1,000 posts on these boards is remarkable. It is not remarkable simply for the time & effort he has put into this thing, but for the fact that there is not a single wasted post. Everything Horse has put here has furthered the discussions, has added to our knowledge, & has been worthwhile reading. He has also been a calming voice of moderation & decency, something I personally[/b] greatly appreciate. My hat is off to you, Horse. Your work is great, your opinion is sought, & your knowledge & interest are unparalleled. It is a pleasure just to be associated w/ you.
Best wishes, Fred.

Let's not over do it here . . . thanks for the kind words, but there are a number of members who have far more knowledge in areas that are not my strong points.
Still, I'm not one to turn down praise . . . like Johnny Carson when the crowd gave him a stand O and with one hand gestures no, no and with the other keep it up!

As a new member I was instantly drawn to the fact that fred has started and stimulated a number of these posts. Congrats to you! What you said about crzhrs is noble and truthful. For it did not take long for crzhrs to reply to my replies. I look forward to open discussions in the future with both of you. Gerry

I'd forgotten how to make a word clickable but now I've gone back and refreshed my memory with El Crab's Excellent Directions. I may become monster #2.

Sorry, dc. Even we 'bitter older white women' enjoy being the Goddess of someone's universe. Try to cope, dear. Gordie --

If you do it without permission, it would be a disrespect to the people your father so admired, and hence to him as well. Depending upon where Sitting Bull's remains are actually interred [there is some doubt, I think], you might be able to arrange something through his descendants, although "near" is another question. Try posting your question, and maybe a few more details about your father on www.American-Tribes, which is a forum offsprung [is that a word?] from this one, and which deals solely with NDN culture and history. There are descendants of Sitting Bull on that forum, and they will be sure to read whatever you post. I hope that this is of some assistance to you. Regards, Gordie

Here's a bit of background that may also be useful: Is it legal to spread remains on public lands in S.D.? A possibly relevant excerpt: The GF&P commission specifically prohibits the spreading of human cremains at one state park -- Bear Butte State Park near Sturgis, according to Doug Hofer, director of GF&P parks and recreation division. The commission regulates that activity there at the request of a number of American Indian tribes, which consider it an inappropriate cultural practice.
"Years ago, it got to be a popular practice at Bear Butte by non-Native people," Hofer said. Because Bear Butte holds sacred meaning to Indian tribes, the commission agreed that "it would be inconsistent with the spiritual significance of the area to allow that."

[Let the rest suck up to Diane - You are the Goddess of my universe] I heard that! NaturalMystic/Su -- I'm not sure if you mean to spread ashes or bury them. Either way, I would not even ask the question.
