Leyton, it's only the 15th. There's time for the Pads to have another super May like last year. "We" won the NL West last with barely a .500 record. Kind of embarassing. But I guess getting there is the main thing. We're down 4-3 to the Diamondbacks right now, but we'e got time. About two weeks ago I was lamenting that there were so many games left and was crying for the NFL season to start up again.

Leyton, it's only the 15th. Did ya have to remind me? Well, there are still some folks who believe Kerry Wood is going to be the savior of the season when he comes back on Thursday. Rather than that, I think we need to start a pool to predict when he goes back on the DL ... And Barry's still stuck on 713! --LMC

Oh, please, don't mention Bonds. I think it's a crime having this barry watch in passing Ruth. Hammerin Hank has the record; not Ruth. As for bonds: **********bonds. Yeah, poor Woods came on like gangbusters years ago and just can't keep healthy. What a shame. He was like the second coming of my fellow Texan, Roger Clemens.

Way to go, Bubbabod and Leyton. You rescued this thread. I really must say this though:
You have to love that the Clippers are now 2-2 in their series with the Suns. This after years in the LA-LA Laker Bargain Basement for Basketball. I am not a Clipper fan but you have to love those Bad News Bears finally getting some good press!
Also, I have to say "Go Mavericks" as any good Dallas, Texas girl would say! ;D

Red Sox are in First Place . . . ahead of the Yankees who's pitchin' is floundering. The Big Unit is done for and without Matsui and Sheffield their offense is slowly sinking in to the East River.
Go Sox . . . can't wait for Coco Crisp to come back from his broken finger. And who the heck would name their kid after a cereal?

Crzhrs--
Lucky his mamma didn't like Frankenberry! Seems the only comfort I'm getting this baseball season is relishing the Red Sox's good times and watching Steroid Bonds whiff away ... and I thought time stopped last year when Nomar hit the DL!
YellowRose--
Indeed; it was time to lower the heat under the water! Too durn much was being taken too damn personally ... but you'll have to school me on basketball. While I admire the players' aerobic conditioning (which is the best of all team sports), I just don't get excited about the game. Give me a scorecard, a pencil, a beer, and the left field bleachers in the Friendly Confines!

Nomar, it seems, has regained some of his former brilliance with the Dodgers, he's been on a tear since returning from the DL and has not made any errors at his new first base position . . . still its a long season and we will see if Normar's body has returned to full strength or it's just a matter of time for another injury.
As for B Bonds . . . great ball player . . . terrible personality. Give me Willie Mays any time. Hard to believe he's Bond's grandson . . .

From Leyton Greetings Leyton, I threw in the basketball stuff as I no longer root for the LA Dodgers so I am baseball "teamless" in that regard. In response to your comments, I am afraid that I can school no one on basketball stats, etc. I do, however, enjoy watching it as it is fast-paced and you can see all the celebrities close up. Regarding aerobic conditioning, would not soccer rank right up there with basketball? Go, Mia Hamm! Your scorecard and beer sound great, too! Go Cubs!

YellowRose--
Hmmm ... I'm sensing a theme to this thread. Nomar? Mia? Baseball? Soccer? Could there be something to these rambling thoughts? Crzhrs, I think I need your help!
Funny, I used to be a Dodger fan when I lived in *the* Valley. I still remember the one game playoff they lost to Atlanta waaaay back in the early 80s. Vin Scully remains my favorite baseball broadcaster, well, he and former Cub pitcher Steve Stone.
Regards, Leyton McLean

Soccer & basketball are both games of constant motion, whereas baseball is most of the players standing around waiting for the pitcher to throw the ball and the batter to hit it . . . then, and only then is there a frenzy of movments . . . then back to calmness.
Oh yeah . . . hockey is constant movement also but there are regular line changes so players are not constantly on the ice.
Mia Hamm will forever be known as the woman who took off her shirt in public and get away with it . . . I can live with that!

I'm thinking El Crab must have not read this thread once it turned to sports or he'd have been defending his beloved Dodgers. Let me tell you, the kid is a sponge. I don't care whether it's history or sports, he absorbs it all. I don't even attempt to debate him on anything because he puts me to shame. Although we have had some fun discussions since my Padres have done somewhat better than his dodgers the last two years. I've got to say I had a ball watching him and Rich Fox going back and forth testing each others sports intelligence. Rich is also a walking baseball encyclopedia, and watching him and Crab going at it was something to behold.

Frank & Crab--
Dodgers! Dodgers! These bums ain't the Dodgers, not the real Dodgers, anyway. Look at this collection of misfits. Where is the pitching? Where is the farm system? At least w/ Theo Epstein & that Boston brain-trust up there or George Steinbrenner, you get some modicum of fun, some chance at winning, some decent entertainment, a reasonably good product. For me, at my age now, it is more about seeing good baseball, good football, not the trash most of these grubbers bring us. That's why some of these coaches & managers are commanding such high wages. Too much water in the system; no depth, no quality, only history, memories, & fleeting dreams. When you remember the Reese's, the Snider's, the Mantle's (God, how I hated him when I was a kid!), the Campanella's, the Koufax', the Hersheiser's; Garvey, Cey, Baker, Drysdale... .
Enough!
Best wishes, Fred.

Ahhh ... the Penguin! Now that is my kind of Dodger player! Well, he and Fernando.
