Joseph Taylor witnessed many events in early day Dakota Territory and personally encountered many of the characters and personalities that had a major influence on the eventual settling of North Dakota.
Taylor's frontier cabin, built in 1869 along Painted Woods Creek near present day Washburn, was moved to the city proper and remains on display in Washburn.
