I have a recording rumoured to be of Martini sounding the charge exactly as it was sounded at Weir Point - 15.5 seconds of silence. Any offers? Alan

"Rumored", alas does not make it so.
When and where was the recording made? Who made it? Is there any authenticity to it?

There is no doubt as to its authenticity, as it is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Colonel Graham. I have a taped copy, which I have treasured for years. It resides in a place of honor on my night-table, beside my pitcher of instant water.
I take it out to listen to from time to time. It's hard to tell exactly when it begins and ends, so I'm not sure that alanw has the timing down pat; but I will bow to his obviously superior knowledge.

Alas I heard the original shellac recording was run over by a beer truck. However, as with tequila, many of my posts should be taken with a generous pinch of salt.

All right then.
Did you know that there are photos taken by Kellogg at the Crows Nest that have shown up on eBay?
They depict Custer scanning the horizon for the village and the Crows standing behind him making faces and thinking: "Dumb White Man needs spy glasses to see what we can plainly see with our naked eyes. Better start making plans to return to reservation before we get killed."

Is that the actual caption on the photos, or did somebody make it up after Kellogg's pictures were discovered and printed. I don't have any of his photos, but I do have his camera, which I will shortly be offering for sale, with an additional battery and SD card thrown in as bonuses.

I recently watched a film made in the early 1950's called "Tomahawk" with Van Heflin playing Jim Bridger. Early in the first few minutes there is a Peace Council scene and in the front row are at least 2 Warriors that fought at the Little Bighorn. One is Dewey Beard and I did not identify the other yet. They were wearing the exact same outfits worn in the famous photo taken by Bill Groethe in 1948 of the last 8 known warriors still alive. The film by the way is pretty good. It has the Wagon Box fight, the Fetterman Fight, and Jack Oakie!!!! The US Cavalry is standard AWFUL with the suspenders & all but all in all a fairly good and HISTORIC film!

Anything with Jack in it is Oakie by me!!!
Gordie, why do firemen wear red suspenders? To hold their pants up. why do cavalrymen wear suspenders? Because John Ford said so.
