All-- The information is trickling out, with more specifics come March. The annual Western Writers of America's Convention is to be held June 12-16, 2007, at the Hawthorne Park Hotel in Springfield, MO. One of the highlights (for us) will be the seminar on the Civil War in Southwest Missouri, complete with a field trip to Wilson's Creek Battlefield (hmm ... is there a Benteen in the house?). Another highlight is that this is probably the BEST place to market your books, either fiction or non-fiction. You don't have to be a member of WWA to attend or to schmooze. Editors, publishers, and agents will be around. Also, more than a few writers: Larry McMurtrey is a usual guest, as is Loren Estleman; you name them, they're there. Besides, Western writers are probably the nicest authors in the world, no question is too dumb ... ever. I haven't met a mean one yet. For our already published folks, there will be book rooms and tables. Sell your stuff. Make money! I hope both Scout and Custerfile and Bob Snelson are reading this. For more than a few of us, a little more spending money for the next week's trip to LBH is ALWAYS welcome! I haven't the cost breakdown yet, but it can be tax-deductible as a business expense, if you claim writer as a form of employment. As of this moment, I am not sure--given the medical situation--if I'll be able to go, but if I don't, I'm sure I'll be kicking myself ... years down the road. www.westernwriters.orgSee you there ... then on to Little Bighorn!
