Soldiers of the 7th Cavalry,
Today I received the “go-ahead” to release the Official Cavalry Re-enactors’ Regulations and By-Laws handbook for the United States 7th Cavalry Regiment Re-enacted. This document has been a labor of love for the General (Steve Alexander) and a number of officers of the 7th Cavalry for over a year now. The Real Birds ask that from this year onward, everyone is to address this manual as the way to conduct themselves while guests on their property. Those who do not feel that they will be able to follow these guidelines are asked to refrain from attending.
As written in the By-Laws, upon reaching the Real Bird’s property, ALL participants will be required to sign in at the Adjutant’s tent prior to doing anything else in order to receive information, etc. Before participation in the event in any fashion, the By-Laws must be signed and returned to the Regimental Adjutant. To ease the cost of printing on the Regiment, we ask that you print out the document, which can be obtained by emailing me, and bring it along with you to the re-enactment (if you forget however copies will be available as well).
These By-Laws will be addressed at the first official meeting of the 7th Cavalry after the reception for the re-enactors on Bob Nightengale’s property Friday evening, everyone is invited and encouraged to attend. Any concerns or issues will be addressed in the official manner outlined in the By-Laws by the re-enactors present.
Let us stress that the composition of these “rules” was not done in a fashion to seize control of anything or force certain groups or persons to abide by any other individual’s whims, in fact it was set up to prevent this from being able to happen. Upon reading the attached document you will see that everything addressed is on the up and up and quite fair to all parties. Our checks and balance system, instilled throughout the document, ensures that no power hungry faction can assume complete control at any time.
This booklet is simply a way to bring order to what was before a chaotic event. 99% of the re-enacting world is regulated in the fashion that we have outlined in our By-Laws, we are simply getting with the times by catching up. Though our original thoughts were to present this information upon everyone’s arrival at the LBH, we decided that giving everyone a couple months to digest the information and thus time to reconsider their appearances, actions and dedications was the best route to take.
We hope that everyone finds this information beneficial, well researched and well needed. Thank you for your constructive thoughts and feelings regarding these matters and we look forward to serving with you all in a more orderly fashion during the upcoming campaign!
On behalf of the entire United States 7th Cavalry Regiment Re-enacted,
1st Lt. Donald McIntosh
Acting Regimental Adjutant (US7CRR)
7th U. S. Cavalry, Co. G (Commanding)
