I think that you've got this the wrong way round. CH was enamored of No Water's wife. NW became disgruntled and shot CH in the face. It's in all of the biographies. Try Kingsley Bray's "Crazy Horse" or Eleanor Hinman's "Oglala Sources on the Life of Crazy Horse".

The answer to your question however is no. CH was not a dictator.

No dictators in Indian culture. Indians could follow or not follow someone if they wanted to. No Water's wife had been infatuated with Crazy Horse for a long time. There had always been talk of them marrying. One time CH went on a raid. No Water was suppose to go but said he had a tooth ache (bad omen) He and the woman married. When CH returned he was heart-brokened. Apparrently the woman (what's her name? ) wasn't happy with NW. In Lakota culture she could leave her husband any time and she went to CH. NW found out about it and stormed into their tepee and shot CH. NW fled and was always anti-CH even on the reservation. See the above-mentioned intervirws, read Crazy Horse (Sandoz) or Bray's bio of CH.

Wasn't it also the case that Crazy Horse didn't want Little Big Man to sleep with someone else's wife?

also remember it was the custom that you did not have sex with anyone before you went to fight. It was a part of the ritual to prepare for battle.

The woman's name was Black Buffalo Woman and there is a belief that her second child may have been fathered by CH. She eventually 'divorced' NW. Hunk

No water was nephew to red cloud and was courting black buffalo woman as was tasunka witko.(she grew more attached to tasunka witko) When the war party came and NW said his tooth hurt the iyeska with them said it was bad for him as he was an elk dreamer and was sent home. Well when all the Warriors returned including TW they realized that the two were married which enraged TW as he stormed off and left the camp for days!! Just thought I'd share a Story told me!!
