In the Crazy Horse Surrender Ledger, taken on May 6, 1877, reveals that Bad Warrior shared a lodge with Wood Root.
I assume that these both persons were Miniconjous. Wood Root may be it wrong translation of Canhutakan, Roots of a Tree, who was from Miniconjou Band?
Whether there is an information on this account?

Andrew, from a list of the warriors at the Little Big Horn available on the website of the Friends of the Little Big Horn, Bad Warrior is listed simply as Lakota. Wood Root is listed as Oglala. That they shared a lodge is no guarantee that they came from the same Lakota sub-tribe.

Well, nevertheless there is a probability, what the Bad Warrior from surrender list is Miniconjou.

Yes there is probability Andrew, but don't take it as gospel. The constant intermingling of bands and extended family groups, especially among the more southerly of the Lakota bands tended to blur the lines between band member identities. I'll do some more research and get back to you if I find anything.

Andrew, if you try the website www.crstepd.org/DuganBadWarrior you will find that Dugan Bad Warrior is the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe's official responsible for preserving their water supply. It is highly likely that your Bad Warrior was his ancestor so if you can find out how to contact Dugan, he may be able to tell you what band his ancestor, if he is, belonged to. Good Luck! Hunk

Thank, Hunk, but the page cannot be found www.crstepd.org/DuganBadWarrior <http://www.crstepd.org/DuganBadWarrior> The Bad Warrior with the wife Eagle were recorded in the Sitting Bull Surrender Census for 1881. Then have returned to Cheyenne River Agency. But in the census of Cheyenne River Agency in 1886 family of the Bad Warrior is not present, gone to Rosebud. Therefore I also have assumed, that it is the same person from Crazy Horse Surrender Ledger.

Sorry Andrew, try www.sioux.org then click on 'Contact Us' where you will find telephone numbers etc., to enable you to get some information. That is the website for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reservation which is the home of four of the Lakota bands, the Mini Conjou. Blackfeet, Sans Arcs and Two Kettles, so it looks as if Bad Warrior was a Mini Conjou if it is a choice between that tribe and the Oglala. Once again, good luck. Hunk
