Frank,
This photo was taken on Standing Rock Sioux Reservation along with the other 8,000 photos he took at Fort Yates and on the resevation during his life. His copy of this photo has been in my life one way or another since I first saw it at the age of 6. That was 56 years ago. My grandfather and other family members have written about her.

You will find a drawing of Yellow Eyes on one of the links posted by Montana bab on the LBH Art thread. I have no idea how authentic it might be. There are many other portraits of Indians on that site.
Gordie, if it ain't broken, don't sell it.................................

Frank, I don't mean to horn in, but Dorothy alerted me to this great site and I registered. I am Dorothy's first cousin Caroline and I've been reading all the posts. I am able to see the photo, and it is in fact our great-great-grandmother Yellow Eyes and it IS the exact photo that Dorothy has -- a Fiske original in her possession.

Hi Frank,
That is my great, great grandmother. We have always known her as ista zi, Yellow eyes or eye as it is on the back of the silver gelatin print Frank Fiske made. The copyright date on the photo is 1906. I see my cousin answered you but I wanted to confirm. I saw your website where you have her picture. What info do you have about it?

Dorothy will be giving her presentation again. If you are in the area, please try to see her. Arrow Rock State Historic Site will host a presentation Saturday, April 5, entitled "In the Spirit of Yellow Eyes: A Cultural Legacy."
Sponsored by Friends of Arrow Rock Inc. and Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the presentation begins at 10 a.m. in the historic site's visitor center. It is free and open to the public.
Dorothy Eiken is an artist, cultural interpreter and the great-great-granddaughter of Yellow Eyes, a Hunkpapa Sioux born approximately 1828 in what was then Dakota Territory. Article: www.marshallnews.com/story/1320194.html
