All--
Writing from here in Billings, MT. Such sweet beauty, this place has ... it's quite green at the battlefield this year, lots of snow in the mountains--the most I've ever seen this time of summer--and the CBHMA symposium was rewarding! Board members Kingsley Bray and Ephriam were both speakers ...
As usual, the rest of the gang were not about to give much credit to the Native American warriors and there was much discussion regarding Benteen's dawdling ... sigh. Some things never quite change ...
Going to an event tonight at LBH; working the trails tomorrow. I'll be meeting Melani this afternoon.
This is the best trip I've had ... more later!

Trish -- I'm glad you're having such a great time!
Since you'll be at the battlefield, do you think you could find the west webcam and give it a little swipe with some Windex? It's so filthy, we can't see a thing! ;D

It's so filthy, we can't see a thing! ;D I must say I seriously considered it, but got hung up in other things, mostly at the bottom of the Keogh Trail. I was staying at the Seventh Ranch, and their wifi doesn't work, try as we might. So now I am in Bozeman, on the way home. I did indeed meet up with Tricia, and a great time was had by all. I will sort out some pictures as soon as I get home, and send them to Diane.

Has the LBH River gone down at all? Lots of water flowing earlier this month -- almost to the grandstands at the Realbird re-enactment.

TD--
If the mosquitos were any indication, no it hasn't ... by much. I thought we had bad--West Nile--bugs here in Arkansas; my forehead was literally covered with the buggers the night we spent sundown and late twilight at LSH. Thank goodness for DEET.

Realbird Are you Pohanka?

Pretty sure. He admitted it and/or someone else outed him here, I cannot recall. But in this case, you're old like me and still think it 2007. Or, in my case, 1987. He probably removed any overly embarrassing post of his on this board, something he dearly wishes he could do from the AAO board, but cannot. All, of course, exist on people's hard drives, so the web can be viewed as "forever."
One of the - many - reasons multiple ID's annoy me is that the unwary can waste a lot of time introducing themselves and welcoming the same jerk who left in an effeminate huff, after a sufficiently dramatic announcement about their leaving, flounce off in what they hope is impressive style, and then reappears under another name as if this were a 12-step group and we have to pretend we don't know.

Realbird Are you Pohanka? Apparently I have committed a cardinal sin by selecting the user name Pohanka. Dark Cloud refers to me as being " ousted" (whatever he means by that) and, others pretty much have classified me as one level above obnoxious or, at best, classless. No I am not " Realbird" althought, whoever he was, I only hope he was treated better than I.

DC said OUTED, not ousted. ALTHOUGH anyone who writes althought doesn't have a lot of room to criticize. Spell Check is available at all times.
Perhaps this would be a good time to tell everyone, especially "pohanka" who claims he never heard of Brian and thought the name sounded like a cool Indian name, that I can see your email addresses even when you put them as "hidden."
People may jump to whatever conclusions they choose.

I never knew Brian Pohanka personally. My great loss, I fear. I knew of him only as one of a number of expert commentators on ‘Civil War Journal’ from the History Channel. Nothing special about that. ‘Experts’ abound in all fields. I also never knew, until after he was gone, of his interest in the Little Bighorn misadventure. Again, only one a huge crowd. In spite of all that - I was a bit taken aback when the screen name ‘pohanka’ first appeared, and you’ll find no more tolerant people than I. Except for (very likely) Diane Merkle.
Given the somewhat narrowed focus (normally) of this board’s subject matter, NOT choosing to use Brian’s name should have been a no-brainer to anyone interested in the history discussed and fought over here. No matter how casual their interest might be. A simple change of moniker, at first awareness of a simple faux-pas stated to have been purely by whim and for no special purpose, would be an easy thing to do.
So, I can readily see Diane’s point, and will bet the farm that she is not the only Brian Pohanka friend or fan here that feels the same. It may go beyond that as well. Be advised that the real Mr. Pohanka left behind a young widow, who for all we know has some enduring interest in this subject matter and might read this board in a non-participatory way.
None of this is my business, of course, but since I have (at absolutely no financial cost to myself) unfettered use of precious bandwidth (paid in full by Diane and Chuck Merkel), I feel free to run my mouth about the issue. Don’t feel especially set upon by DarkCloud and his dark ways. Nearly everyone here has been provided with a bath from the acid keyboard, often with reason and always with full explanation. It really doesn’t burn that badly. DC retracts as quickly as attacks when given logical reasons. Dry off and move on from it. Have some fun and - have a heart. Changing from a name chosen with no attached agenda should be no big deal. We’ll see.
Diane - “… I can see your email addresses even when you put them as "hidden."…”
I feared as much. Please don’t tell DC about my other 42 screen names here. I been learning to write and spell a whole bunch gooder from him.
Michael
