Greetings from the Eastern US. Been lurking around this site for a while, finding lots of information on a subject of longtime interest. I'm trying to build a reading list on the LBH fight, and this site is invaluable. Some background: longtime living history buff includuing (US) Civil War and WW1, retired marine engineer and antique firearms collector and user. One of my major points of interest are the details of soldier life of the this period, both US and Brit. Two items in my 'bucket list' are visiting LBH and the 1879 ZW sites in Natal. I spent some time doing the ZW sites in 2005, hope to visit LBH as time and health issues permit.

Greetings from the Eastern US. Well, Jim, welcome here. I am delighted you have come out of the shadows; I think you will find this board an invaluable tool in developing an understanding of the LBH... probably the Zulu Wars, as well, since we off go off on all sorts of tangents. Then again, if you have been watching here, you already know that. One thing to remember: personally, I have always believed we learn as much from questions as we learn from answers. Often, there are multiple answers, not all of them correct, but if you sift through them and pick the ones making sense, the ones where logic and first-hand, primary evidence prevail, you will find the truth. So if you have questions, please ask them, regardless of how many times they may have been asked before. None of us are too proud to admit wrong (unlike in some other places) and none of us claim to have all those answers we seek. There are some true experts here, mainly "montrose" and "AZ Ranger"; "jodak," "Colt45"... and others. So please, contribute. By the way, I admire guys like you who live their passions. You make these things worthwhile for guys like me. Best wishes, Fred.

Welcome, HalfaheadJim, Delighted to have another person on board that is interested in LBH. I'm sure you will bring much to the discussion that will assist all of us in learning even more than we know or think we know.
